In order to establish and operationalise the branch in the Southern part of the country with all facilities of International standards a building named 'Manikyavelu Mansion has been acquired form the Govt. of Karnataka. A comprehensive scheme for renovations and additions to the existing building amounting to Rs. 7.78 Crores has been approved by the Ministry of Culture and the work is being executed by the Central Public 

Works Department. With the completion of renovation and additional construction work, a carpet area of 3710 sq.mt. and a total built up area of 5587 sq.mt. will be available for display of art objects, exhibition and other artistic pursuits. It is expected that the entire construction work will be completed and the branch will be fully operationalised during the year 2006. Once the branch becomes operational, it will develop itself into a full-fledged museum of Modern Art and will have a perpetual standing in the field of Modern Art and Art practices.
