School Visits - Active Arts Programme
Grade I
GOAL – Playful introduction to artworks in the
museum space.
Introduction to the paintings in the gallery through
treasure hunt. Visuals of artworks emphasizing on
line, colour form, shape and texture will be shown.
Students will have to hunt for the artworks whose
visuals were shown to them .Physical imitation of
painting to understand space.
Expected time – 1 hr.
Materials required – Lot of enthusiasm and
inquisitiveness. Pencil and paper if they want to
sketch.
Grade 2
GOAL – Playful introduction to artworks in the
museum space.
Introduction to the paintings in the gallery through
verbal treasure hunt. Description of the artworks
emphasizing the elements will be given to the
students. They will then have to locate the artwork
which fits the description.
Expected time – 1 hr.
Materials required – Lot of enthusiasm and
inquisitiveness. Pencil and paper if they want to
sketch.
Grade 3
GOAL – To sensitize the students about the elements
and their importance in the unity of a picture.
To walk around the gallery and chose two works of
their choice. Mix the composition of one and use the
colours of the other to create their own work of
art.
Expected time – 1 ½ hrs.
Materials required – Sketchbook and crayons or
colour pencils and a desire to create.
Grade 4
GOAL – To introduce the students to formal analysis
which is part of the art appreciation process.
To divide the students into pairs and talk a walk
around the gallery. Each student will choose a work
of art while the other questions the choice and vice
verse. Before the students start the exercise a mock
up discussion will be done for them to give them an
idea.
Expected time – 1 ½ hrs.
Materials required – A book and a pencil and a
questioning and inquiring mind.
Grade 5 and 6
GOAL – To observe, describe and interpret a work of
art and to be able to write about it.
Introduction to the process of critical analysis and
art terminology through a discussion followed by a
writing exercise.
Expected time – 1 ½ hrs
Materials required – A note pad and pencil along
with an analytical mind.
Grade 7 and 8
GOAL – To decipher information from and about an art
work.
Introduction to the two types of information which
can be collected from an art work. One is from the
art work which the students do at the museum and the
other is about the artwork which is a follow up
exercise done in school.
Expected time – 1 hr.
Materials required – Pencil, paper and an analytical
and investigating mind. Colours if desired
Grade 9 and 10
GOAL – To investigate works in the light of the
theories of art.
To consider a variety of art works and view them in
its historical perspective and cultural context. To
encourage probing questions and gain an
understanding of what they (students) value.
Expected time – 1 hr.
Materials required – Pencil, paper and an
investigating, analytical and critical mind.
